Amazing Field Trip Opportunities With Your Genesee County Parks

September 16, 2016 | Amy McMillan

Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission has wonderful opportunities for your students to learn and interact with nature and history.  If you’re afraid we’re out of your budget capabilities, we would like you to know that Target Corporation is accepting applications through October 1, from Educational professionals for the Target Field Trip Grants program, an annual program designed to expose K-12 students in the United States to museums, historical sites, and cultural organizations. History Comes to Life

Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad offers a one-of-a-kind educational experience for your students. The Special Christmas School Day, December 9, 10:00am – 3:00pm, is offered to private, charter, public and home schools. History comes alive when you roll up your sleeves and take part in the every-day activities of a 19th century community. Click here for curriculum guide.

Our School Days field trips are also offered on multiple days in the Spring, starting mid-May through the end of the school year.

Student tickets (ages 3-12) include admission to the Village and a train ride. The cost is $7.50 per student with advance reservations. Teachers (one per class) and bus drivers receive free admission. Adult chaperones are admitted at the student rate. Home school groups do not get free tickets for teachers or chaperones. Visit our website for more information.

We also offer a Stanley School House program in the spring. The purpose of this program is to provide students and their teachers with a typical school day experience circa 1800s. We achieve this experience through the use of our authentic, one-room schoolhouse, provide each class with a trained schoolteacher who instruct students by using teaching styles and materials from the 1800s and we encourage students, teachers and chaperones to dress in clothing typical of the 1800s.
