IN-RIVER RESTORATION

River restoration activities will greatly improve access to and from the Flint River, fish and aquatic habitat, hydrology, connectivity, material recruitment and movement, geomorphology and water quality of the Flint River. Plans for in-river restoration are still in process and will begin in 2021-2022.

RIVERBANK PARK

Work in Riverbank Park will coincide with in-river restoration. Genesee County Parks will work the City of Flint, the Flint Watershed and Wade Trim to hold community engagement sessions in early 2021.

CHEVY COMMONS

Phases I and II have been completed, covering 24 acres from Chevrolet Avenue and Glenwood towards Stevenson Street. Phase III will cover approximately 9 acres from the corner of Stevenson Street and Kearsley towards the Swartz Creek and will be complete in 2017. The work on Phase IV will take place from 2018-2019 and cover the rest of the site. Click here to learn more.

THE HAMILTON DAM AND FABRI DAM

The superstructure of the Hamilton Dam and the Fabri Dam have been removed thanks to a $3,000,000 grant from the MDNR’s Dam Management grant. The concrete weir at the site of the Hamilton Dam will remain in place until the next phase of in-river restoration is complete. There are buoys placed directly upstream of the weir to warn paddlers that it is not safe to passage over the weir. Please plan to portage around the weir if you are planning a paddling trip.
