New Foot Bridge for Genesee County Parks' For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum Coming Soon!

Thanks to an $83,000.00 grant from the C.S. Mott Foundation, Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission will replace For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum’s telephone pole bridge, which was removed 3 years ago, with a new steel-frame footbridge. The new footbridge will restore access to the north west portion of the Preserve’s trail system. For-Mar Naturalist, Katie McGlashen stated, “Without the bridge, some portions of our trail system were isolated and not being used to their potential. The bridge will allow more immediate access to trails on the north side of the Preserve. Those with limited mobility won’t feel cut off from parts of For-Mar anymore.”

The new 70’ long steel-framed footbridge with its timber boardwalk and approaches will sit on concrete abutments. Heystek Contracting, Inc. is the contractor for this project. The project is scheduled to be completed in 12 weeks from its September 20, 2010 start date.

For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum is owned and operated by the Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission and is located at 2142 North Genesee Road, Burton, Michigan.
