honey

What’s the buzz about bees? For-Mar is home to some of our favorite pollinator friends—the Apis mellifera—which is  Latin for honeybee! They utilize the variety of wildflowers and tree blossoms on the For-Mar property to produce their honey in our apiary.

For-Mar staff work with local beekeeper Krista Ketterer to manage our four hives located on the property not far from the butterfly house. Krista is not just the beekeeper here at For-Mar but also manages the hives in her backyard. You can follow her on her Facebook page “Adventures in Beekeeping at For-Mar” where she uploads kid friendly videos on all things beekeeping.

Visitors can purchase For-Mar honey in the gift shop located inside the Visitor Center. You can also have opportunities to watch the beekeeping process in action throughout the year at pop-ups in the summer, programs, and classes at For-Mar. Check our calendar for upcoming dates.

To keep up with Krista, follow her Facebook page.
